A Hidden Gem of Rome’s Aristocratic Past
Step beyond the usual sights of Rome and discover Villa Torlonia, one of the city’s most fascinating historic villas—a remarkable blend of aristocratic elegance, art, architecture, and enchanting gardens.
Originally purchased by Giovanni Torlonia in the late 18th century, the estate was transformed into an extraordinary residence with the help of the celebrated architect Giuseppe Valadier. Between 1802 and 1806, Valadier redesigned the villa and its gardens, creating elegant avenues, formal spaces, and monumental architectural features.
The Torlonia family enriched the estate with an impressive collection of classical sculptures and works of art, turning the villa into a refined setting for Roman aristocratic life.
What makes Villa Torlonia particularly fascinating is its extraordinary collection of eclectic buildings, including the enchanting Casina delle Civette (House of the Owls), famous for its richly decorated interiors and beautiful stained-glass windows. The villa offers a rare glimpse into the imaginative and highly decorative architecture of early 20th-century Rome.
A visit to Villa Torlonia is an invitation to discover a different side of Rome—elegant, unexpected, and far from the usual tourist paths.
